CHOICE OF THE ENGINE POWER FOR LINE HAUL TRAINS

In the article basic approaches of determination of road train engine power are examined. Statistic data of engine power variation, average speeds and fuel consumption of line haul trains from 1966 to 2007 are presented. On the basis of analysis of modern requirements for line haul trains on highways the determination of engine power in terms of maximum speed of 60 km/h on the grade of 3-4% is proposed.
