Abstract |
Wear and fatigue resistance of titanium alloy Ti-6Al-2Mo-2Cr nitrided by various technologies was investigated. It was shown than nitriding results in increase in microhardness of near-surface layer up to 1900-2100 HV0,2 and improves wear resistance in 15-20 times. Gaseous nitriding of titanium alloy in the atmosphere of dissociated ammonia reduces its fatigue resistance. Computer simulations were used to calculate the elastic-stressed condition of the gradient layer formed on the surface of the nitrided titanium alloy. It was shown that strain and compressing stresses appear in the nitrided layer. It was concluded that reduced fatigue resistance of titanium alloy subjected to nitriding in the atmosphere of dissociated ammonia can be explained by accelerating appearance of fatigue microcracks in strained areas of modified layers due to hydrogen saturation. |
