Abstract

The plane problem of fracture mechanics for a transverse crack that occurs in a section of coating, that coupled with the elastic base of another material when the surface coating applied normal load (wheel load), is considered. The boundary value problem of the equilibrium coverage with a crack is reduced to a singular integral equation from solutions of which the stress intensity factors were determined. The condition of limiting equilibrium cracks is formulated taking into account the criterion of brittle fracture.
